Empowering communities through grassroots climate education
THE PILLARS WE STAND ON
Education
We make climate literacy actionable and accessible by developing resources and providing opportunities for lifelong learning, skill-building, and leadership, rooted in the lived experience and cultural strengths of our communities.
Advocacy
We empower individuals, networks, and partners to shape environmental and social policy by supporting collective voice, civic engagement, and community-driven solutions for systemic change.
Research
We collaborate with residents, organizations, and sector partners to gather insights, generate knowledge, and co-design innovative approaches that respond directly to real-world challenges and opportunities.
THE IMPACT WE'VE MADE
Global impact starts in our own backyard
What we do here matters to somebody, somewhere else. When food is discarded and ends up in landfill, its decomposition releases greenhouse gases (GHGs) into the atmosphere, joining emissions from plastics and other toxic chemicals. These GHGs circulate globally, contributing to climate disruptions like extreme weather events, soil erosion and crop losses in vulnerable regions like the Caribbean. This cycle illustrates how our local actions can have far-reaching impacts.
Climate justice asks us to recognize that those who contribute least to global emissions—often Indigenous communities and people in the Global South—are most affected by climate change’s harms, including food insecurity and destructive storms. Indigenous knowledge emphasizes respecting the land, minimizing waste, and maintaining balance with nature, offering sustainable practices that protect communities and the climate. By valuing these approaches in our waste management, we not only reduce global GHGs but also honor wisdom that supports climate resilience and justice for all.
Here's some of the impact we've made over the years:
